What is Numerology? It is a map. A map cast by the numerical configuration of the date on which you were born. Numbers, as everything, are energy. Each carry a different meaning and different qualities.
To know and understand your numerological birth chart is akin to knowing your astrological chart; the alignment of the planets when you were born and how they influence you. In short, it’s another lens through which to view the nuances that make you you, and it gets interesting when you start to compare your numerology birth chart with your partner’s, or your children’s.
It’s another tool that can illustrate your strengths and challenges, and how to navigate them.
There are many elements to Numerology but here I am sharing the 9-year cycle that we all circle through. This repeating 9-year cycle gives us our Personal Year Number (PYN) – the year we are currently in within the 9-year cycle.
The 9-year cycle shows periods of consolidation and periods of growth, the ebb and flow. You’ll know looking back over time that certain years stand out as momentous, others hard.
There is great wisdom in cyclical living. Fertility comes in seasons. Land needs fallow periods to replenish if we are to harvest from it. The 9-year cycle shows periods of consolidation and periods of growth, the ebb and flow. You’ll know looking back over time that certain years stand out as momentous, others hard. Faith and wisdom help us to go with the flow in our lives rather than controlling, knowing these cycles can help with that trust.
Your Personal Year Number (PYN)
To calculate your Personal Year Number (PYN) within the 9-year cycle you take the World Year Number (WYN) and the month and day of your birthday.
The cycle runs from 1-9 and then back to 1 again, any number over 10 is further reduced, adding the numbers together until a number of 9 or under is reached.
World Year Numbers ie
2026 = 2+0+2+6 = 10. 1+0 =1
So, 2026 is a WYN 1.
PYN
WYN (1) +MONTH (02) + DAY (11) ie
1 + 0 + 2 + 1 + 1 = 5
PY 9 – The peak year of change. The end of the old cycle and the commencing of the new. Setting change in motion. Releasing what we have outgrown, tidying up, squaring debts.
PY 1 – A year of adjustment, actively adopting the new. Breaking old habits.
PY 2 – A year of sharing, spiritual development, emotional evolution.
PY 3 – A mind or mental evolutionary year. A great year to study, there is a thirst for knowledge. Travel can be a way to learn and expand mentally.
PY 4 – A year of consolidation. Rest and integration of the previous 5 years significant momentum.
PY 5 – A year of freedom. A respite between PY 4’s trough and the coming PY 6’s peak. Freedom through personal expression.
PY 6 – A year of creativity. A peak in the 9- year cycle for creative projects.
PY 7 – A fallow year of focus. Similar to PY 4, a year for reflection. An ‘Autumn’ energy; pruning and releasing, creating space.
PY 8 – A year of rapid change. We are asked to rise up, ascending towards the peak of the 9-year cycle in year 9. High vibrations, momentum.
Of course, there are times where events occur that are beyond our control. You may change job or move house in a year not optimally aligned to such activity. The value in Numerology is the knowledge that we can apply; knowing that if you learn a musical instrument in a PY 3 you’ll progress far more quickly than if you set about the same undertaking in a PY 4. Knowing that you’ll benefit from not undertaking radical change in a PY 4 if possible.
